The Midtown Detroit area is filled with beautifully rendered hand typography, otherwise known as graffiti. Found in places mostly desolate and empty, these jewels become a beautiful pop of color, making lively an otherwise dead space. Many Detroiters have learned to look past this art form, ignoring their lovely forms and vivid colors. The 157 Alphabet Project asks Detroiters to stop and take a closer look. Observe and dissect it’s typography and characters, learn more about the culture and appreciate the beauty in graffiti.
